Our signature outdoor portrait sessions - what to expect!

We ADORE outdoor portrait sessions! Come summer or winter, we love to be outdoors capturing natural and real images of you with your loved ones!

We have found some stunning locations where we achieve our signature bold & colourful look that is so very well loved by our clients.

So what should you expect to happen at your outdoor session? Well, it all starts well before that in the planning stages. I will converse with you to learn about your family members so that I can personalise every session as much as possible. We will talk about the type of images you are drawn to, if there are any specific images that we simply can’t miss and what you would like to do with your portraits once we are finished.

We will also provide you with useful information around how to co-ordinate your families outfits so that you all connect without being matchy matchy, along with some recommendations on how to prepare for our session together. Plus you are welcome to utilise our growing studio wardrobe during your session.

In the days leading up to our session together we will send you a map and meeting point at your chosen location.

On the day of our session together we will start with Michelle spending a few minutes with your kids to help them to feel at ease from the beginning. Then the adventure begins! To keep it fun and active for the kids (as well as to add variety to your image backgrounds) we will move around our location to a number of different spots.

If there is a playground then we will start at the furthest point from it so that those little eyes are hopefully not too distracted by the temptation to play on it. Our session will instead end there so Mum & Dad can use it as a reward after our session is complete.

Our first stop on our little adventure together will be to capture a few family images. I start with these as it helps to give the kids an idea of what is going to happen. We will do a variety of family portraits from standing and sitting to other more creative candid images.

As we move on from that spot we I will be capturing you all (or just the kids) playing games, dancing, twirling, jumping, laughing and loving each other! This is the bit that really makes my heart sing!!!

One thing we receive the allot of feedback on is how relaxed we are during our sessions. Our theory is that you can’t rush a child into doing something they don’t want or aren’t ready to do. It is all about patience and if it isn’t going to work with them then move on quickly to the next plan. By doing this the kids continue to enjoy the session and their parents don’t feel that they need to pressure their little ones to ‘perform for the camera’, cos we all know that isn’t going to end well for anyone! If one specific pose doesn’t work, don’t worry - we always have another up our sleeve!

When it comes time to do individual portraits of your little ones I ask that you let just me (Michelle) interact with them. This will help them to focus on me to get that beautiful eye contact shots. Don’t worry if you see some fake smiles to begin with while I’m snapping away. It can help to loosen them up, get the silly shots out of the way and to work towards getting those true beautiful big smiles. Just trust in the process. I will let you know if I need a hand at any time.

As we near the end of our photography session together I will let you know what has been captured so far and check with you for any other shots you may have thought of along the way.

Our session will finish near where we met but before say goodbye we will make a time to meet up at our Paralowie studio where we will get to relive the day by viewing your completed collection of images. This appointment is also where you will place your order for your gorgeous images on our stunning products for you to take home and cherish forever!
